The Lockheed P-3 Orion is a four-engine turboprop anti-submarine and maritime surveillance aircraft. The P-3C used by the German Navy were procured from the Nederlands 2005-06 and became fully operational in 2008.
The P-3 Orion’s main role with the EU Naval Force as Maritime Patrol and Reconnaisance Aircraft (MPRA) is long-range maritime reconnaissaince. The MPRA is also used for Search and Rescue (SAR) missions.
