Counter-Piracy Force Commander Pays a Visit to Spanish Maritime Patrol Aircraft Detachment in Djibouti
August 17, 2016 - 09:47Operation Atalanta’s Force Commander recently visited the Spanish Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft (MPRA) detachment in Djibouti.
During his visit, Commodore Luyckx of the Royal Netherlands Navy was introduced to the commanding officer, air crew and ground support teams. He was then provided with briefings regarding the P-3’s capabilities and later visited the aircraft, where the crew explained in detail the equipment and sensors on board.
During his visit, the Force Commander emphasised to the Spanish crews the significant role that the MPRA crews play as part of Op Atalanta’s mandate to ensure piracy remains suppressed off the coast of Somalia.
