Dutch Support Ship HNLMS AMSTERDAM joins EU NAVFOR Task Force

HNLMS AMSTERDAM joined EU NAVFOR on the area of operation on 10 September.
HNLMS AMSTERDAM is a Fast Combat Support Ship that has been in service with the Royal Netherlands Navy since 1995. She has a displacement of 17,040 tons and a crew of 175.
HNLMS AMSTERDAM will be able to logistically resupply EU NAVFOR fleet at sea with diesel oil, aviation fuel and provisions. With the ability to replenish at sea, supply ships, such as HNLMS AMSTERDAM, enable EU NAVFOR warships to remain longer at sea.
EU NAVFOR Somalia – Operation ATALANTA’s main tasks are to escort merchant vessels carrying humanitarian aid of the World Food Program (WFP) and vessels of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). EU NAVFOR also protects vulnerable vessels in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean, deters and disrupts piracy. EU NAVFOR finally monitors fishing activity off the coast of Somalia.
