ESPS Rayo Welcomes Key Seychellois LeadersOctober 12, 2017 - 16:50
In early October ESPS Rayo visited the Seychelles to meet with key leaders and Security Forces.
In parallel to the RAYO visit an important dialogue between the European Union and the Seychelles Government has been taking place and the opportunity was taken to host members of the EU Heads of Missions within the Region and members of the Seychelles government on board RAYO in conjunction with an early celebration of the Spanish National Day. This was deemed to be a great success with compliments to the CO RAYO on the evening from all quarters received.
The following evening Her Excellency Mrs Marjaana Sall, European Union Ambassador, invited members of EU NAVFOR to a reception at Le Meridien Fisherman’s Cove which took the opportunity to celebrate 40 years of Partnership between the Republic of Seychelles and the European Union as well as to mark 60 years of the signature of the Treaties of Rome which are founding treaties of the EU. This event was attended by the President of the Seychelles, Mr Danny Faure, and other distinguished Seychellois guests as well as those EU Heads of Missions participating in the 3 days of the ‘8 Dialogue conference’.
Sailors from the Rayo also conducted local interaction with the Seychellois Maritime Forces, including the Coast Guard, Air Force and the Marine Police Unit. Together the crew of Rayo led discussions and practical demonstrations on Boarding Operations, Evidence Gathering and Operations at sea. The training focussed on piracy but had wider applicability for the daily working routine of the Seychellois forces, namely in areas such as drugs and weapons smuggling.
Also on the same evening, there was an opportunity to celebrate Spanish National Day a few days early. This event was a great success enjoyed by all onboard, with compliments passed to Rayo’s Commanding Officer.
ESPS Rayo’s port visit to the Seychelles was an ideal to opportunity to strengthen relations across the maritime community in the region.
