EU Naval Force builds Malagasy Navy capacity
September 20, 2017 - 09:14On 14 September, during her port visit to Antsiranana, the EU Naval Force warship, ITS Fasan, conducted Local Maritime Capacity Building (LMCB) training with personnel from the Malagasy Navy.
Italian Marines from ITS Fasan provided instruction in techniques for the safe detainment of those suspected of piracy or armed robbery, comprising of both theoretical and practical elements. As well as the practical training, the team worked with Madagascan interpreters, strengthening the working relationships and understanding between the two forces.
The EU Naval Force’s cooperation activities with the Malagasy Navy are a key element in improving ties with the authorities of all local countries. Madagascar is a primary partner helping EU NAVFOR to deter and disrupt piracy off the coast of Somalia.
