EU Naval Force Commander Visits Tanzanian Government and Military Representatives During Visit to Dar es Salaam
March 30, 2015 - 16:15EU Naval Force warship, HNLMS Johan de Witt, recently visited the port of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania between 22 – 27 March.
The Dutch warship is host to the EU Force Headquarters, commanded by Rear Admiral Jonas Haggren (Swedish Navy).
During the port call Rear Admiral Haggren visited the Tanzanian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Bernard K Membe, as well as officers of the Tanzanian military. Also in attendance were the EU Charge d’affaires, Mrs Luan Reale and the Commanding Officer of the HLNMS Johan de Witt, Captain Rene Lucyck.
Rear Admiral Haggren briefed the Minister on the composition of the EU Task Force and the current situation with regards to piracy off the coast of Somalia and areas around Tanzania.
The Minister praised the EU Naval Force for its commitment to combating piracy and stated that he looked forward to further cooperation.
