EU Naval Force Flagship ITS Carabiniere Strengthens Relationship with Local Seafarers Over the Festive Period
December 29, 2015 - 10:54Over the festive period, Operation Atalanta flagship, ITS Carabiniere, carried out a friendly approach with a fishing vessel off the Somali coast.
The meeting at sea is part of the European Union’s efforts to monitor fishing activity in the vicinity of the Somali coastline. During the meeting, ITS Carabiniere’s team provided food and drink, as well as some much-needed medical assistance to one of the fishermen.
ITS Carabiniere’s team also took the opportunity to discuss with the seafarers Operation Atalanta’s counter-piracy efforts at sea and how they can work together to improve maritime security in the region.
Following the successful visit, ITS Carabiniere resumed her patrols.
