EU Naval Force ITS Espero Continues Maritime Training with Djiboutian Navy
May 15, 2017 - 08:52During their recent port visit in Djibouti, EU Naval Force warship, ITS Espero, conducted maritime training with a team from the Djiboutian Navy.
In cooperation with EUCAP Somalia staff, the training focused on tactical boarding of a suspect vessel, followed by real-time practical experience on board ITS Espero. This high-level training and experience is invaluable to boarding teams in developing their understanding of the potential risks and techniques required to ensure the safety of all those involved in such operations.
The training focus was the same as the training given during the previous port visit on the 29 March 2017, but at a greater level of difficulty.
Maritime training with regional partners, such as Djibouti, helps to strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation with EU NAVFOR and contributes to international efforts to ensure piracy remains suppressed off the coast of Somalia.
