EU Naval Force Operational Headquarters Welcomes European Union Military Committee
June 24, 2014 - 16:07The Operation Commander of EU Naval Force Somalia Operation Atalanta, Rear Admiral Bob Tarrant and his Deputy, Rear Admiral Bartolomé Bauzá today welcomed the Chairman, Director General and 35 Military Representatives of the European Union Military Committee to the Operational Headquarters in Northwood.
The European Union Military Committee (EUMC) is the highest military body set up within the Council. It directs all EU military activities and provides the Political and Security Committee (PSC) with advice and recommendations on military matters. The EUMC is composed of the Chiefs of Defence (CHODs) of the Member States, who are regularly represented by their permanent Military Representatives (Mil Reps).
The EUMC Chairman, General Patrick de Rousiers and the Director General of the EU Military Staff, Lieutenant General Wolfgang Wosolsobe, along with the other senior officers were given a briefing by Rear Admiral Tarrant and other members of his staff. The briefing updated the EU military officers on Operation Atalanta, which is the European Union’s counter-piracy mission in the Horn of Africa and off the Coast of Somalia.
