EU Naval Force Warship ESPS Galicia Raises Money for Djiboutian Children
October 9, 2015 - 11:09During her last few days on deployment with Operation Atalanta, sailors and marines from ESPS Galicia had one very important mission to carry out. They arranged a visit to the Djibouti cathedral to give a cash donation to help local school children.
The money had been raised during their time at sea, with the crew organising two charity marathons to help raise funds for local children who attend the thirteen local schools run by the cathedral.
Whilst visiting the cathedral, the crew also donated clothes and medicine, for the children.
After visiting the cathedral, their next stop was to a local orphanage and school, where they saw the good work carried out by the church and volunteers.
ESPS Galicia is now on her way home to Spain after handing over Force Command of Operation Atalanta to ITS Libeccio after spending more than five months on patrol off the coast of Somalia.
