EU Naval Force Warship ESPS Relampago Escorts World Food Programme Merchant Vessel
October 29, 2012 - 10:35
Spanish warship ESPS Relampago, which is operating as part of the European Union Naval Force counter-piracy mission – Operation Atalanta, has ensured the safe arrival of a World Food Programme (WFP) ship, MV Masar Trade, in to Mogadishu.
ESPS Relampago escorted MV Masar Trade, which was carrying much needed corn to the Somali people, from the Somali port of Bossaso along the east coast of Africa to Mogadishu.
During the escort, ESPS Relampago kept close watch on the merchant vessel, ensuring she remained safe at all times from possible pirate attack. Once the WFP vessel arrived safely into the port, the EU NAVFOR frigate resumed her counter-piracy patrols in the waters off the Somali Coast.
