EU NAVFOR DEPUTY COMMANDER IN DAR ES SALAAM
December 12, 2017 - 16:58Rear Admiral Nanclares has completed a visit to Dar es Salaam for Spanish Warship ESPS Patiño’s first port visit.
During this time he met with the EU Ambassador to Tanzania, His Excellency Mr Roeland van de Geer. This visit was important to discuss priorities and goals of ESPS Patiño for the months ahead in Operation Atalanta.
The discussions focused on the ongoing presence of EU NAVFOR and the excellent relationship with Tanzanian authorities. As the winter monsoon approaches, with north-easterly winds from mid-December to March known locally as the ‘Kaskazi’, ESPS Patiño, working with key partners and sister EU missions like EU CAP Somalia and EU Training Mission, will play a key role in deterring piracy off the coast of Somalia and in the Western Indian Ocean.
