EU NAVFOR Italian warship LIBECCIO completes escort of AMISOM ship MV Alfa Kirawira

On 28 September, EU NAVFOR Italian ship ITS LIBECCIO completed the escort of MV Alfa Kirawira, transporting freight for AMISOM (African Union Mission in Somalia) from Mogadishu to Mombasa, having left Mogadishu for Mombasa on the morning of 24 September.
MV Alfa Kirawira is a Sierra Leone flagged vessel, chartered by the UN for AMISOM, the organization which supports the Somali Transitional Federal Government. The Italian ship ITS LIBECCIO escorted the MV Alfa Kirawira, which was transporting freight for AMISOM to Mombasa.
EU NAVFOR Somalia – Operation ATALANTA’s main tasks are to escort merchant vessels carrying humanitarian aid of the World Food Program (WFP) and vessels of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). EU NAVFOR also protects vulnerable vessels in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean, deters and disrupts piracy. EU NAVFOR finally monitors fishing activity off the coast of Somalia.
