EU NAVFOR Opens In Brussels – Portes Ouvertes

Today, 8th May, EU NAVFOR – Somalia (Operation Atalanta) took part in the European Union open day (|Journee Portes Ouvertes des institutions europeennes).
Every year the EU opens its doors to the public and this year, for the first time, EU NAVFOR takes part.
The EU NAVFOR Media team is supported by the Council Press Office and enjoys continued support during the operation. Between 7,000 and 10,000 people are expected to visit the Council of the European Union.
EU NAVFOR Somalia – Operation ATALANTA’s main tasks are to escort merchant vessels carrying humanitarian aid of the World Food Programme (WFP) and vessels of African Union Mission in Somalia, AMISOM and to protect vulnerable vessels in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean and to deter and disrupt piracy. EU NAVFOR alsomonitors fishing activity off the coast of Somalia.
