Hijacked Thailand Fishing Vessel Thai Union 3 Released
March 7, 2010 - 14:30EU NAVFOR can confirm that early this morning a Thailand flagged fishing vessel (Thai Union 3) was released by pirates from the port of Haradeere after the payment of a ransom.
The Thai Union 3 was hijacked on 29 October last year about 200 miles north of the Seychelles and 650 miles from the Somali coast.
EU NAVFOR Somalia – Operation ATALANTA’s main tasks are to escort merchant vessels carrying humanitarian aid of the ‘World Food Program’ (WFP) and vessels of AMISOM, and to protect vulnerable ships in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean and to deter and disrupt piracy. EU NAVFOR also monitors fishing activity off the coast of Somalia.
