February 28, 2018 - 10:42The EU Communications and Information Systems Support to Maritime Operations (CISSMO) workshop was held recently in the EU NAVFOR OHQ in Northwood, London.
The workshop, which took place 20-22 February, was a 2 yearly update of EU CIS doctrine hosted by the staff of EU NAVFOR Somalia.
Key CIS representatives from across the EU attended, from EU Naval Operations such as Operation Atalanta and Sophia, to member state maritime HQs including Belgium, Cyprus, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, Sweden and the UK. Focus was placed on improving interoperability and the exchange of information with NATO partners. The aim of this work was also to enable a greater number of EU member states to have naval ships ready for EU operations.
Cooperation and coordination of all facets at all levels are vital to ensure the smooth functioning of EU operations and missions.
