A team of 24 troops from Uganda, part of the African Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) received vessel protection training from French and Estonian troops in Mombasa onboard FS FLOREAL, which is operating as part of the EU NAVFOR.

On departure from the Operation ATALANTA area of operations, the Force Commander, Admiral Jugel gave the following interview:

EUNAVFOR Task Force 465 Change of Command Ceremony. The change of command ceremony between of Commander Task Force 465 Germany and Spain was held onboard EUNAVFOR Flagship, FGS BAYERN on 6 December 2011 in Djibouti.

On 03 December, EU NAVFOR welcomed the German frigate FGS LUEBCK to EU NAVFOR Somalia Operation ATALANTA.

On 27 November it was confirmed that M/V ROSALIA D’AMATO was released from pirate control and is now en route to Oman.

On 28 November HNLMS ZUIDERKRUIS, the Dutch Fast Combat Support Ship, left EU NAVFOR Operation ATALANTA to return to her home port in Den Helder.

FGS KÖLN completes a very successful deployment to EU NAVFOR

Last Wednesday, counter-piracy naval forces were presented the 2011 “Newsmaker of the Year Award” by Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region.

20 November, the  Spanish warship ESPS INFANTA CRISTINA completed operating under EUNAVFOR, after 81 days working  for Operation ATALANTA.

Pirating of M/V LIQUID VELVETOn 31 Oktober the M/V LIQUID VELVET was pirated in the Gulf of Aden and has been taken towards the Somali coast.

On 11 November, the Yemeni dhow AL JABAL was handed-over by the Commanding Officer of the FGS KOELN to the Yemen Coast Guard for return to its owner after it had been stolen to be used as a pirate mother-ship.

On 8 November, following detection by EU NAVFOR warships and aircraft working in close cooperation in the Somali Basin, the Yemen registered dhow, AL JABAL, which had been stolen for use as a pirate mother-ship, was stopped by the FGS KOELN.
