After 4 months in the hands of pirates, HANSA STAVANGER slipped quietly into the port of Mombasa under the watchful eye of the EU NAVFOR ship FGS BRANDENBURG.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Thank you for your interest in the European Union Naval Force (EU NAVFOR) support to the recently released ship HANSA STAVANGER.

To increase the knowledge about the European Union Naval Force and the aims of operation Atalanta, a liaison officer from the Djiboutian Navy was invited to participate in a patrol onboard the EU NAVFOR Swedish warship HMS TROSSOE.

European Union Naval Force ship BRANDENBURG escorts MV HANSA STAVANGER to Mombasa. HANSA STAVANGER is sailing under her own steam and with her own crew.

Having been held hostage for four months, HANSA STAVANGER is now underway to a safe port accompanied by two EU NAVFOR frigates of the German Navy operating in the area in support of the EU-lead Anti Piracy Operation Atalanta.

The German flagged and owned container vessel, HANSA STAVANGER has been released 3 August. The 20,000-tonne container vessel, HANSA STAVANGER, was captured about 400 miles off the southern Somali port of Kissmaayo on 4 April.

On Sunday 2 Aug 09, the EU NAVFOR  Dutch ship HNLMS EVERTSEN under the Command of Commander Cees Vooijs sailed from Den Helder to join the EU Naval Force operating off the Somali coast in its Anti Piracy mission.

Saturday, 1 August, the Norwegian frigate HNoMS FRIDTJOF NANSEN sails from Norway to take part in EU NAVFOR Operation Atalanta.

On Thursday 30 July Mohamed Abdulahi Omaar Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited the Operational Headquarters at Northwood.

On 24 July, journalist were invited to a Media day in Djibouti to witness the excellent work of over 1200 sailors and soldiers in the European Naval Force Operation Atalanta.

EU NAVFOR Spanish warship NUMANCIA, flagship of EU NAVFOR’s Operation Atalanta, has been patrolling the eastern waters of Somalia and Kenya where French and Spanish tuna fishing fleets operate.

Today 24 July EU NAVFOR German Maritime Patrol Aircraft discovered a suspicious skiff whith 5 suspected pirates onboard in the Internationally Recognised Transit Corridor (IRTC) between Bossasso and Al Mukalla.
