On Monday 8 September EU Naval Force Belgian frigate, BNS Leopold I, conducted a replenishment at sea with the German support ship FGS Berlin in the Internationally Recommended Transit Corridor (IRTC).
As the ships sailed close to each other, maintenance equipment was transferred from FGS Berlin’s deck to BNS Leopold I’s forecastle via a heaving line. The equipment will ensure the ship maintains a high level of operational capability during the frigate’s deployment.
Once the material transfer was complete, the frigate repositioned astern of the German support ship and conducted fueling operations.
Although the weather conditions were not ideal, both operations were completed successfully.
At the end of the replenishment, a German Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPRA) that was patrolling in the area performed a fly-past which was greatly appreciated by all crew members on deck.
