On 19 May 2015, EU Naval Force flagship, ESPS Galicia, conducted maritime training with sailors from the Tanzanian Navy during a port visit to Dar es Salaam.
The training was conducted in support of the European Union’s aim to enhance the capabilities of local maritime forces within the Horn of Africa region to enable them to patrol their own waters and guard against maritime crime, such as piracy.
After being briefed on the Spanish warship’s command and control system that is used to monitor all activity at sea, the ship’s crew and visitors carried out a practical fire-fighting exercise. On completion of the training, the Tanzanian sailors stated how interesting and useful the visit to an EU Naval Force warship had been.
