During one of their recent counter-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden, ESPS Galicia’s ship protection teams carried out a range of gunnery exercises.
A Spanish Navy Landing Platform Dock (LPD), ESPS Galicia is Operation Atalanta’s current flagship. This very capable and highly versatile warship departed her home port of Rota in early February. She is deployed off the coast of Somalia as part of the European Union’s efforts to deter and disrupt acts of piracy and to protect World Food Programme vessels carrying humanitarian aid for the people of Somalia.
