Italian Warship ITS Libeccio Joins Operation Atalanta off the Coast of Somalia
June 22, 2015 - 13:13On 10 June 2015 Italian warship, ITS Libeccio, under the command of Commander Daniele Paolo Maria Martinuzzi, joined Operation Atalanta to conduct counter-piracy operations off the coast of Somalia.
ITS Libeccio is a Maestrale class frigate, with a highly-trained crew, many of whom have extensive experience of counter-piracy operations.
ITS Libeccio will be deployed with Operation Atalanta for four months as part of Italy’s commitment to the European Union’s efforts to deter and disrupt piracy off the coast of Somalia.
