ITS Carabiniere Provides Firefighting Training to Tanzanian Sailors
February 29, 2016 - 15:58Members of the Tanzanian Navy were invited on board Operation Atalanta’s warship, ITS Carabiniere, during her recent port-visit to Dar es Salaam to receive specialist firefighting training.
The 8 Tanzanian sailors had a busy programme of events during their visit. They focused on passive defence and fire-extinguishing techniques; practical demonstrations were given by Italian fire-fighters and then the Tanzanian team had to replicate the procedures, ensuring they maintained safety throughout.
ITS Carabiniere is ideally placed to facilitate this sort of training and it is an important aspect of the ship’s work in enhancing cooperation and interoperability between navies off the Horn of Africa. Atalanta personnel work hard to ensure maritime security is maintained; liaison and training with regional partners is critical.
