Marines from Operation Atalanta Flagship ESPS Galicia and Republic of Korea Warship Choi Young Carry out Joint Counter-Piracy Training off the Coast of Somalia
March 6, 2017 - 16:13During their joint counter-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden, marines from Operation Atalanta’s flagship, ESPS Galicia, and the Republic of Korea Ship (ROKS), Choi Young, carried out a range of boarding exercises on board their respective warships.
Training exercises such as this help to ensure that the marines remain fully trained and prepared to deal with any security incident at sea and serve to strengthen the close cooperation that exists between counter-piracy forces off the coast of Somalia.
This maritime cooperation has helped to ensure that Somali-based piracy, that caused so much misery to seafarers just a few years ago, remains suppressed.
