Operation ATALANTA Deputy Operation Commander visits FNS Pohjanmaa

On 14 April, the EU NAVFOR Deputy Operation Commander, Rear Admiral Guido Rando visited the EU NAVFOR Finnish warship FNS Pohjanmaa whilst she was alongside in Djibouti.

Admiral Rando was in the region to take part in the changeover ceremony of the ATALANTA Force Commander which occurred earlier in the day.

The Admiral thanked FNS Pohjanmaa and her crew for her outstanding service in the operation. The Finnish vessel joined Op ATALANTA in beginning of February and will end her duty at the end of April.

EUNAVFOR Somalia – Operation ATALANTA’s main tasks are to escort merchant vessels carrying humanitarian aid of the World Food Program (WFP) and vessels of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). EUNAVFOR also protects vulnerable vessels in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean, deters and disrupts piracy. EUNAVFOR finally monitors fishing activity off the coast of Somalia.
