On Monday 14 September 2015 sailors from Spanish warship ESPS Galicia delivered food, clothes and medicine to the cathedral in Diego Suarez.

The aid given will be sent to seminaries around the city to help those who are in need.

Speaking about the aid provided, ESPS Galicia’s commanding officer, Captain Rafael Fernández-Pintado Muñoz-Rojas said “Being able to help communities during our port visits is extremely important to us.  When we visit countries in this region they always welcome us and make us feel at home.”

During their visit, members of ESPS Galicia’s crew also completed a charity run on board to raise money for the cathedral and the seminaries it supports in Madagascar.

On completion of the port visit to Madagascar, ESPS Galicia continued her counter-piracy patrols off the coast of Somalia for Operation Atalanta.
