On Tuesday 15 September 2015, Spanish warship, ESPS Meteoro carried out training with the Tanzanian Navy during a port visit to Dar Es Salaam.

Officer cadets from the Tanzanian Navy were hosted on board ESPS Meteoro, where they were trained on the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), and the self protection measures implemented by merchant vessels to help keep them safe from pirate attack.

On completion of the training, the officer cadets were given a tour of the ship and briefed on its capabilities and roles undertaken whilst deployed with Operation Atalanta off the coast of Somalia.

The commanding officer of ESPS Meteoro, Lieutenant Commander José Almira, thanked the Tanzanian Navy for taking part in the maritime training and said “It is important that we continue to interact and train with our regional partners to build mutual trust and understanding and improve maritime security within the region.”
