On Sunday 20th August, during a port visit to Djibouti, Operation Atalanta warship, FGS Erfurt, hosted and trained members of the Djiboutian Navy and Coast Guard.
The training consisted of navigational theory and equipment, as well as essential fire-fighting and damage control skills. The visit to the German warship gave the Djiboutian Navy and Coast Guard hands-on practical experience of how to use the safety equipment.
This was the first training event carried out by FGS Erfurt since she joined the EU Naval Force off the coast of Somalia, with the training being part of Operation Atalanta’s mandate to help strengthen regional states’ maritime security and capabilities.
