The Advertising students from the University of Alicante, winners of the I Edition of the Contest for designing a responsible creative strategy for the Dissemination of Operation ATALANTA, visited the Operation's Headquarters in Rota to deepen their knowledge on the maritime security operation and receive their award.
Rota, 31 January 2025 - On 24 January, the team of three students from the Advertising degree program at the University of Alicante, winners of the I Edition of the contest for designing a responsible creative strategy for the dissemination of Operation ATALANTA, travelled to Rota along with professors from the University of Alicante.
The purpose of the visit was to deepen their knowledge of the Operation from different perspectives. To achieve this, they visited the Spanish frigate ‘Reina Sofía’, which will be deployed with the Operation in February. They were welcomed by the ship's Commanding Officer Salvador Moreno, who explained the characteristics of the vessel, life aboard, and how the upcoming tasks with Operation ATALANTA are being prepared.
At the headquarters, they had a meeting with the Commander of Operation ATALANTA, Vice Admiral Ignacio Villanueva, who presented them with the award and thanked them for their effort in raising awareness about the operation. In addition, the students had the opportunity to learn in detail about the work of the operation and further explore their creative proposal alongside the Strategic Communication team of the Operation.
ATALANTA and Academic Institutions
Operation ATALANTA and the University of Alicante signed a Memorandum of Understanding in October 2023 with the aim of fostering collaboration between both entities, in line with this spirit of growth and continuous learning which promotes a mutually beneficial relationship. In this context, the course "Maritime Security in the European Union: Analysis of Operation ATALANTA" was held at the University of Alicante in November 2024.
Since its inception in 2008, Operation ATALANTA has been in contact with academic institutions through the participation of its personnel in different types of conferences or by supporting university students.
