Operation Atalanta Lithuanian Maritime Protection Team Delivers Donations to Orphanage in Mombasa
November 3, 2015 - 15:08On Wednesday 25 October 2015 members of the Lithuanian Maritime Protection Team on board World Food Programme ship MV Douro, delivered donations to the Bee Hive children’s orphanage in Mombasa.
The Lithuanian crew was accompanied by the local church pastor as they were shown around the orphanage and introduced to the children. During their visit they donated educational materials, toys and sweets bought with money they had raised during their time at sea.
Before they left the Bee Hive Orphanage, Commanding Officer of the Lithuanian Maritime Protection Team said: “I felt touched to see the deep appreciation from the children and instead of taking a handful of sweets, they only took one piece at a time to ensure there was enough for everyone.”
The Lithuanian maritime team have now departed Mombasa on board MV Douro. They will continue to protect the WFP vessel from potential pirate attack as it transits the Somali coastline to deliver humanitarian aid to the Somali people.
