Operation Atalanta Spanish Warship Strengthens Relationships with Local Somali Leaders
November 3, 2015 - 11:13On Saturday 31 October 2015, local Somali leaders were hosted on board Spanish warship, ESPS Victoria.
The Spanish crew spoke with the local Somali leaders about the role of EU Naval Force in the region and its commitment to deter and disrupt piracy and to monitor fishing activities along the coastline. The local Somali leaders were keen to build on the relationship and understand the benefits of alternative livelihoods that the European Union is helping to develop.
Following the successful meeting and a tour of the ship, the three local Somali leaders returned to the shore and ESPS Victoria continued with her counter-piracy patrols.
