Operation Atalanta Warship ITS Libeccio Donates Equipment to School in Djibouti
October 22, 2015 - 14:32Just prior to their departure from the Gulf of Aden and journey home to their base port of La Spezia, crew members from Italian warship, ITS Libeccio, visited the Notre-Dame de Boulaos school in Djibouti.
During the visit the Italian sailors were shown around the school and introduced to the children. They were accompanied by the Sisters of the Charity of St Vincent de Paul.
The school is funded by the Catholic Church of Djibouti and individual donations. During the visit the crew were also introduced to a young student who suffers from tetraplegia, who needs assistance to be able to take part in some of the lessons.
ITS Libeccio’s chaplain, Father Paolo Solidoro, and the sailors donated two wheel chairs to the school.
Before the crew returned to the ship, Mother General Sister Samuela Ferrari thanked them for their kindness and generosity and wished them a safe journey home to Italy.
