Operation Atalanta’s Deputy Commander Visits Spanish Maritime Patrol Aircraft Detachment
February 24, 2016 - 11:46Operation Atalanta’s Deputy Commander, Rear Admiral Jonas Wikström, visited the Spanish Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft (MPRA) Detachment in Djibouti last week.
The Detachment’s Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Santiago Ibarreta from the Spanish Air Force, gave the Deputy Commander a tour of the MPRA’s operating base and outlined the specialist capabilities of the P-3 aircraft.
The Deputy Commander thanked the Detachment for their commitment to Operation Atalanta and their invaluable imagery and intelligence provision. He highlighted their professionalism, effort and dedication, crucial in the Operation’s mission to maintain maritime security off the Somali coast.
