Pirates fended off
May 17, 2009 - 20:35A 115.000 tons UAE tanker, flying the flag of the Marshall Islands, this morning was attacked by probable Somali pirates in the Eastern part of the Gulf of Aden. One skiff with 6 attackers onboard approached the vessel several times and fired with small arms and rocket propelled grenades. For more than one hour the ship’s crew succeeded to avoid being entered by evasive manoeuvring, until a warship arrived on scene, following the early distress call. The frigate stopped the pirates and the tanker continued its journey. There were no casualties and only light damages on the vessel. It was registered with the Maritime Security Centre.
