Rear Admiral Fabio Gregori Visits Tanzania Building Regional Cooperation for EU NAVFOR
November 23, 2017 - 14:21On the 14th November the Force Commander of EU NAVFOR’s Operation Atalanta, Rear Admiral Fabio Gregori visited General Mabeyo, Chief of Tanzania People’s Defence Force and Rear Admiral Makanzo, Commander of Naval Forces in Dar Es Salaam.
During his visit the Force Commander took the opportunity to invite local dignitaries including the Italian Ambassador to Tanzania, Roberto Mengoni, onboard ITS Fasan.
The Admiral took an active role in understanding local maritime capabilities in order to build regional cooperation to deter and repress piracy in the Western India Ocean.
The Force Commander expressed his thanks and gratitude for a warm welcome from Tanzania and all agreed the need for extra vigilance and cooperation to help ensure vessels remain safe as they transit the Indian Ocean.
