Tanzanian Coast Guard and EU Naval Force Warship FS Nivôse Conduct Boarding Procedures Training
June 10, 2013 - 17:35On June 3rd, during a port visit to Dar Es Salaam, French frigate, FS Nivôse organised local maritime capacity building (LMCB) training with the Tanzanian Navy. This training built on the training conducted by FS Guepratte a few days earlier.
Twelve members of the Tanzanian Coast Guard were briefed and given a demonstration on the methods used by the boarding teams of the French Navy to stop and search a suspect vessel and its crew. During this dynamic training, they were also given a demonstration in methods used to disarm suspect crews carrying weapons.
This event was organized by the EU Naval Force Liaison Officer in Kenya and Tanzania. It contributes towards the development of intervention capabilities of the local navies enforcing maritime security around the Horn of Africa.
FS Nivôse has been part of Operation Atalanta since April 10th. This mission aims to deter, prevent and repress acts of piracy off the Somali coast.
