Operation Atalanta is pleased to welcome back Spanish frigate ESPS Santa Maria.  She was previously deployed on Op Atalanta in 2011 and will be conducting counter-piracy patrols over the coming five months.

Whilst Operation Atalanta’s Spanish Warship, ESPS Tornado was alongside in the Seychelles recently, members of her crew offered sea survival training to personnel from the Seychelles Air Force.

On 11 May 2016, tanker support ship, FGS Spessart, joined Operation Atalanta, as part of Germany’s contribution to the EU’s efforts to deter and disrup piracy off the coast of Somalia.

Since December 2015 a highly-trained Lithuanian maritime protection team has been embarked on board the World Food Programme (WFP) ship, MSM Douro, to ensure her precious cargo of humanitarian aid reaches its destination in Somalia safely.

On 29 April 2016, Operation Atalanta's German Flagship, FGS Bayern, rescued 92 people from a stricken vessel in a Saving Of Life At Sea (SOLAS) event.

During a recent port visit to Dar es Salaam, sailors from Operation Atalanta’s Italian warship, ITS Euro, took the opportunity to visit local children.
