Dutch Counter-Piracy Flagship HNLMS Tromp Pays a Visit to Sultanate of Oman

Operation Atalanta’s counter-piracy flagship, HNLMS Tromp, recently spent time in the Sultanate of Oman on a port visit. The Dutch warship sailed into Muscat after weeks at sea on patrol helping to deter piracy off the coast of Somalia.

Port visits such as this allow Operation Atalanta counter-piracy warships to refuel and resupply with food and spare parts. This in turn means she can spend longer at sea to help keep the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden free from pirates.

This particular port visit also enabled the embarked advanced resuscitation team to have a crew changeover. This highly trained team is comprised of medical specialists who routinely work in civilian hospitals in the Netherlands.  Due to their civilian job commitments, they are aboard for a shorter period of time than the other sailors.

During the port visit, HNLMS Tromp’s sailors took the opportunity to have some time off-duty in the Omani capital, before returning to their counter-piracy duties at sea.
