An EU NAVFOR Sailor working in the Operational Headquarters in Northwood has received a combination of medals for Long Service, Good Conduct and support to Operation Atalanta.

Petty Officer (PO) St Clair Renroy ‘Richie’ Richardson from the UK’s Royal Navy has completed a five month tour of duty at EU NAVFOR and received his EU Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) Service Medal as he departed. In addition to this he was also recently awarded the highly sought after Long Service and Good Conduct (LSGC) medal. The LSGC is awarded to members of the UK Armed Forces for 15 years’ service and for consistently high professional standards. He said: “this is a very proud moment in my life. It’s a big achievement to receive the LSGC medal” he added: “I’ve come a long way since the cold winter days of basic training in the Cornwall where I saw snow for the first time.”

The CSDP Service Medal is an international military decoration awarded to both military and civilian personnel who have served with CSDP missions. Operation Atalanta is part of a larger global action by the EU to prevent and combat acts of piracy in the Indian Ocean, working alongside local and international partners.
