On the 21 of January, the Spanish support ship finished as an EU NAVFOR warship after 42 days of operations and supporting EU NAVFOR.

During this high tempo operational period she has spent a good deal of her time protecting the Internationally Recommended Transit Corridor.

As Support ship, the main difference with the other warships, SPS PATIÑO has supplied other warships with almost 2.000 cubic meters of fuel.

The ship and her crew should be proud to have been the first Flag Ship for a Spanish Force Commander, and of what they have achieved. In his farewell signal to the Spanish Warship the EU NAVFOR Force Commander Juan Rodriguez stated: "I wish to express my appreciation for the impressive array of capabilities that you provided to TF 465, as well as my gratitude for the support and hospitality you showed when you hosted FHQ”.

EU NAVFOR Somalia – Operation ATALANTA’s main tasks are to escort merchant vessels carrying humanitarian aid of the World Food Program (WFP) and vessels of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
