EUNAVFOR welcomes the Spanish Combat Replenishment Ship SPS PATINO

On 8 December 2010, EUNAVFOR’s capacity has been reinforced with the arrival of the Spanish ship SPS PATINO in the area of operations.

SPS PATINO is a Combat Replenishment Ship that has entered service with the Spanish Navy in 1995. She has a displacement of 7,780 tons, is 170 meters long, and has a crew of 148.

SPS PATINO will be the platform for EUNAVFOR next Force Headquarters: Rear-Admiral Juan Rodriguez and his staff will assume the command of the task force from 14 December 2010.

EUNAVFOR Somalia – Operation ATALANTA’s main tasks are to escort merchant vessels carrying humanitarian aid of the World Food Program (WFP) and vessels of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). EUNAVFOR also protects vulnerable vessels in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean, deters and disrupts piracy. EUNAVFOR finally monitors fishing activity off the coast of Somalia.
