Fishing vessel hijacked in Indian Ocean

The Kenyan flagged fishing vessel SAKOBA is reported hijacked 400 NM east of Dar Es Salam.

The ship is believed to be Spanish owned. At the moment EU NAVFOR has no information concerning the nationality or number of the crew. The SAKOBA is heading towards Haradere and EU NAVFOR is continuing to monitor the situation.

EU NAVFOR Somalia – Operation ATALANTA’s main tasks are to escort merchant vessels carrying humanitarian aid of the ‘World Food Program’ (WFP) and vessels of AMISOM, and to protect vulnerable ships in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean and to deter and disrupt piracy. EU NAVFOR also monitors fishing activity off the coast of Somalia.
