Greek Frigate NIKIFOROS FOKAS completes her participation in Operation ATALANTA

On August the 5th and after 88 days, the Greek frigate HS NIKIFOROS FOKAS conducted her last day of operations as part of the EU NAVFOR Task Force.

Throughout her deployment she was assigned to conduct several tasks, such as: patrolling the International Recommended Traffic Corridor, escorting World Food Programme (WFP) and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) shipping, as well as surveying and deterring piracy activity off the coast of Somalia.

EU NAVFOR Force Commander, Commodore Alberto Correia, highlighted the way how HS NIKIFOROS FOKAS successfully completed all the assigned tasks, always being proactive, expressing his profound gratification for the contribution she gave to EU NAVFOR mission.

In his farewell signal, Commodore Alberto Correia said: “In the day you are about to steer northwards approaching the Red Sea and sailing back to Greece, I would like to express my thanks and to congratulate  you and your crew for a well carried out mission under EU NAVFOR flag”.

EU NAVFOR Somalia – Operation ATALANTA’s main tasks are to escort merchant vessels carrying humanitarian aid of the World Food Programme (WFP) and vessels of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). EU NAVFOR also protects vulnerable vessels in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean, deters and disrupts piracy. EU NAVFOR finally monitors fishing activity off the coast of Somalia.
