Spanish Patrol Vessel INFANTA ELENA leaves EU NAVFOR after three months in Operation ATALANTA.

On 20 May, ESPS INFANTA ELENA, the Spanish patrol vessel finished asan EU NAVFOR warship after 84 days proudly flying the European Flag.

 

During her days at sea she was committed in conducting surface search, patrolling and safeguarding the coast of Somalia, as well as escorting multiple vessels chartered by the World Food Program (WFP) delivering food to Somalia, as well as logistic vessels chartered by the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

EUNAVFOR Somalia – Operation ATALANTA’s main tasks are to escort merchant vessels carrying humanitarian aid of the World Food Program (WFP) and vessels of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). EUNAVFOR also protects vulnerable vessels in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean, deters and disrupts piracy. EUNAVFOR finally monitors fishing activity off the coast of Somalia.
