ITS Fasan has remained busy and committed to more work alongside maritime counterparts in Djibouti. Ongoing activity has seen skills sharing in areas such as own Force Protection, Counter Improvised Explosive Device exercises and Basic Life Support with the Djiboutian Coast Guard.
The training was a great opportunity for the Djiboutian Coast Guard to refine skills that will enhance the level of maritime protection they provide in the Gulf of Aden and off the Somali coast. This type of interaction between EU Naval Forces and local maritime agencies assists all seafarers in the local region.
EU NAVFOR operates in the region to repress piracy and armed robbery and provides protection for the UN’s World Food Programme shipping to Somalia. Today (16th October) is ‘World Food Day’.
