On Sunday 23rd August 2015, the Deputy Commander of Operation Atalanta, Rear Admiral Christoph Joachim Müller-Meinhard, visited ESPS Galicia whilst at sea in the Gulf of Aden.
Rear Admiral Müeller-Meinhard flew out to ESPS Galicia from Salalah in Oman via the Spanish warship's SH3D Sea King helicopter, where he was greeted by the Force Commander, Rear Admiral Alfonso Gómez Fernández de Córdoba.
After a tour of the Spanish warship and meeting members of the crew, the Deputy Commander thanked the teams in ESPS Galicia and the Force Headquarters for their hard work since the start of their deployment with Operation Atalanta.
Since joining Operation Atalanta in May 2015, ESPS Galicia has sailed over 15,000 nautical miles deterring piracy and ensuring the protection of World Food Programme vessels as they sail along the Somali Coast.
