Whilst Operation Atalanta warship ESPS Tornado was alongside on a port visit in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, she played host to two important visitors.

Following his appointment to the role in January, the Deputy Commander was in the region conducting familiarisation visits to the Operation’s deployed assets.  Rear Admiral Jonas Wikström was welcomed aboard ESPS Tornado by her Commanding Officer, Commander Salvador Moreno, and taken on a tour of the warship’s operations centre.

On a separate visit, Atalanta’s Force Commander, Rear Admiral Stefano Barbieri, was also able to see ESPS Tornado’s facilities first-hand and meet the crew when he visited the warship.

Both visits enabled discussion on how ESPS Tornado successfully contributes to Operation Atalanta’s mission to protect maritime security in the Somali region through deterring and disrupting piracy.

During ESPS Tornado’s stay in Dar es Salaam, she conducted a thorough logistics review to ensure she is able to continue patrolling and gathering information to best effect when back at sea.
