Pirated MV VOC DAISY released

Yesterday, 17 October, the Panama-flagged MV VOC DAISY was released from Garacad from under pirate control.

The MV VOC DAISY, a Liberian-owned bulk carrier with a deadweight of 47,183 tonnes, was hijacked on 21 April 2010 approximately 190 nautical miles South East from Salalah, Oman.

The MV VOC DAISY has a crew of 21 Filipinos, all of whom are reported in good health.

EU NAVFOR Somalia – Operation ATALANTA’s main tasks are to escort merchant vessels carrying humanitarian aid of the World Food Program (WFP) and vessels of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). EU NAVFOR also protects vulnerable vessels in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean, deters and disrupts piracy. EU NAVFOR finally monitors fishing activity off the coast of Somalia.
