EU Ambassador in Dar Es Salaam visits Operation ATALANTA Force Commander

On the 10 of May, in Dar Es Salaam – Tanzania, the EU NAVFOR Force Commander, Commodore Alberto Correia, received the visit of some of the local diplomatic authorities for a lunch onboard the flagship, EU NAVFOR Portuguese warship VASCO DA GAMA.

At the event, held during the port visit of  VASCO DA GAMA to Dar Es Salam, the following were present: H.E.French Ambassador Jacques de Labriolle, H.E. Ambassador of Spain, Juan Manuel Gonzalez de Linares Palou,  H.E. Head of Delegation, Ambassador Tim Clarke, Miss Susie Kitchens Deputy High Commissioner of the UK and Mr. Tom Vens Head of Political and Press at the EU Delegation in Tanzania.

This meeting was a unique opportunity to exchange information and mutual understanding on the fight against piracy, and allowed Commodore Alberto Correia to underline the European Union effort against the phenomenon in the Indian Ocean, with particular attention on the economic impact that this activity struggles to the region.

 

EUNAVFOR Somalia – Operation ATALANTA’s main tasks are to escort merchant vessels carrying humanitarian aid of the World Food Program (WFP) and vessels of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). EUNAVFOR also protects vulnerable vessels in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean, deters and disrupts piracy. EUNAVFOR finally monitors fishing activity off the coast of Somalia.
