On Saturday 25 July 2015, EU Naval Force Commander, Rear Admiral Alfonso Gomez Fernando de Cordoba, welcomed the Chief of the Djiboutian Navy, Colonel Abdourahman Aden Cher, on board Operation Atalanta flagship, ESPS Galicia.
The visit included a guided tour of the Spanish warship, followed by lunch in the Admiral's Cabin.
During the visit, Colonel Aden Cher and Rear Admiral de Cordoba discussed the on-going piracy threat and the strong relationship that exists between European Union naval units and Djiboutian maritime forces. Colonel Aden Cher said: "Operation Atalanta has helped to reassure and develop a more robust maritime security situation close to the Djiboutian coastline and further out to sea. We really appreciate your efforts."
